To save their own skins, local officials shower the imposter with bribes, wine, and flattery. Nikolai Gogol’s legendary satirical, farcical masterpiece is a wildly funny, razor-sharp takedown of political greed, systemic hypocrisy, and collective delusion. Our current climate is dominated by political spin and institutional mistrust - The Government Inspector has the capability to hold a mirror to our modern world, almost 200 years on - loosing none of its original bite.
